BOOKING PROCESS: How do I book a session at FAME’S orchestral recording studio?
Simply contact us with your project details: score length, ensemble configuration and preferred dates. We provide a free budget quote within 24 hours, with flexible booking options from one hour to full multi-hours sessions to multiple days for bigger projects. Sessions for orchestral recording can be scheduled with just a few days’ notice, including last-minute slots for time-sensitive productions.
BOOKING TIMING: How far in advance should I book my orchestral recording session?
We recommend booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead for full orchestra sessions, especially during busy seasons (spring, summer and autumn). For string sections and smaller ensembles, 1 week is generally sufficient for a 3-hour session. That said, FAME’S is known for last-minute flexibility: when our schedule allows, we can confirm string sessions within 48 to 72 hours. For productions on tight deadlines, contact us directly and we will do our best to accommodate.
LAST-MINUTE: Do you offer last-minute orchestral recording sessions?
Yes. Last-minute bookings are one of FAME’S strengths. With sessions running nearly 7 days a week and a permanent in-house team, we can often accommodate urgent requests for film, TV and streaming projects when schedules align. Reach out as early as possible with your dates and ensemble needs, and we will let you know what’s possible within hours.
PRICING: How much does it cost to record an orchestra at FAME’S?
Pricing for orchestral recording at FAME’S depends on three main factors: ensemble size, session duration and additional services (mixing, editing, video, accommodation). We do not publish fixed rates because every project is different, but we provide a detailed free quote within 24 hours of your inquiry. Our pricing is consistently competitive compared to other orchestral studios in Europe while maintaining the same professional standards. Contact us for a personalized estimate.
WHAT’S INCLUDED: What is included in a standard orchestral recording session?
A standard FAME’S session includes the orchestra fees, conductor, recording engineer, Pro Tools operator, stage managers, full studio setup and microphones, score and parts printing, Pro Tools session preparation, regular breaks for the orchestra, same-day file delivery via Dropbox or Myairbridge and live take organization in PT during the session. Notes and script is usually possible on simple demand while additional services such as orchestration, music preparation, mixing, video crew or accommodation are quoted separately.
RATES BY PROJECT: Do you offer different rates for film, TV, video games or albums?
Our rates are based on session length and ensemble size, not on the type of project. Whether you are scoring a feature film, a streaming series, a video game soundtrack, an advertising spot or an album, the pricing structure remains the same. This transparent approach lets composers and producers budget accurately from the very first quote, with no hidden fees or last-minute surprises. We adapt the session format to your project’s needs: short 1-hour sessions for ads, 2-3-4-5-6 hour sessions for longer scores, up to multi-day studio bookings for large productions.
PROCESS: How many minutes of music can we record per hour?
While we don’t impose strict per-hour limits, we recommend finding a sweet spot that keeps the orchestra confident and comfortable. Based on our experience with standard orchestral music, we suggest 6 to 7 minutes per hour for string sections, and 5 to 6 minutes per hour for larger ensembles. Overdubs and doubling should always be factored into the timing, even when faster to record, they still consume session time. Our production team helps optimize your schedule and budget before booking.
RECORDING WORKFLOW: How does a typical recording session work at FAME’S?
Our team prepares your Pro Tools session in advance, based on your reference tracks, MIDI mockups or tempo maps. On the day of recording, the orchestra is set up before your arrival and a quick sound check confirms the setup. Recording then starts immediately, with direct communication between you, the conductor and the musicians throughout the session. The workflow stays flexible: full-orchestra passes, overdubs, alternate versions or stem recordings, everything adapts to your needs. Regular 15-minute breaks are scheduled after every full hour of recording to keep musicians fresh and focused.
SOUND TEAM: Who handles the recording, mixing and technical side?
FAME’S has a permanent in-house team that handles every technical aspect of your session: experienced recording engineers, Pro Tools operators, stage managers and production coordinators. This is one of our biggest strengths: with thousands of orchestral recording sessions delivered over the years, our team knows exactly how to capture the best sound for film, TV, video games and album productions. Microphone choice, placement, take organization and mix preparation are all part of our standard service. Of course, you are welcome to contact us to discuss specific requirements for microphones or studio setup that would best serve your project.
CREATIVE CONTROL: Can I make decisions about microphones, takes and arrangement during the session?
Absolutely. Every detail is open to discussion before and during the session: microphone selection and placement, take strategy (full-orchestra passes versus sectional overdubs), tempo choices, alternate versions and stems for mixing. Our sound team works closely with your creative vision while suggesting the most efficient approach to fit your schedule and budget. You stay in control from the first sound check to the final take.
THE ORCHESTRA: How many musicians can you provide for a recording session?
FAME’S Studio Orchestra adapts to every project size, from intimate string quartets to full symphonic ensembles of 70 to 90 musicians. We can also provide brass sections, woodwind ensembles, percussion groups, solo instruments (piano, harp, guitar, ethnic instruments) and a professional choir of up to 40 trained voices. Whatever the configuration your score requires, our production team helps you build the right ensemble for both your artistic vision and your budget.
RESIDENT ORCHESTRA: Do you have a permanent orchestra at FAME’S?
Yes. FAME’S Studio Orchestra is our resident ensemble, bringing together the finest professional musicians from North Macedonia and the Balkans region. Led by experienced conductors, the orchestra has built thousands of orchestral recording sessions over the years and is experienced across every musical style: film scores, TV series, video game soundtracks, classical and contemporary music, world music and album productions. This consistency means you work with a cohesive ensemble that already knows how to record efficiently and deliver expressive performances in minimal time.
CHOIR: Can you record a choir or vocal ensemble?
Yes. FAME’S offers a professional choir of up to 40 trained voices, adaptable to any project from intimate vocal ensembles to full choral arrangements for film, TV and album productions. The choir can be recorded alone, layered with the orchestra, or used for specific cues. Soloists are also available on request. Just let us know your vocal needs when contacting us and we will include them in your free quote.
STUDIO LOCATION: Where is FAME’S Studio located?
FAME’S Studio is located in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia, in the heart of the Balkans. Skopje International Airport is just 25 minutes from the studio and connects directly to most major European cities. We can arrange airport pickup, accommodation directly above the studio or in carefully selected partner hotels nearby and full logistical support during your stay. Composers from all over Europe, North America and Asia travel to FAME’S to record and many return for multiple projects each year.
ON-SITE: Can composers attend or conduct their recording session in person?
Yes, composers are warmly welcomed to attend their sessions in person, meet the musicians and even conduct the orchestra themselves. Our on-site accommodations directly above the studio make your stay seamless from day one, or we can carefully select partner hotels nearby for longer trips. The in-house bistro serves full meals throughout your stay: from quick coffee breaks to lunches between sessions. Beyond the studio, our team handles airport transfers, restaurant recommendations and city tours, so you can focus entirely on the music.
REMOTE SESSIONS: Can I record without traveling to Skopje?
Yes. Remote orchestral recording is one of FAME’S core services. Composers and producers worldwide work with us without ever leaving their own studio, thanks to our high-definition video and audio streaming setup. You hear the orchestra in real time, see the conductor and musicians live and communicate directly through talkback. The full session feels as if you were physically present in our control room.
REMOTE TECHNOLOGY: What technology do you use for remote recording sessions?
We use industry-standard tools to deliver a seamless remote experience: Audiomovers for studio-grade audio streaming, Zoom for HD video & talkback and custom routing when needed. Our sound team handles the full setup from our side, so you only need a stable internet connection and your usual monitoring setup. Bandwidth requirements and compatibility are confirmed before the session to avoid any surprises on recording day. An invitation to attend the session is sent the day before recording, with all connection details for you and your team.
SHARED SESSIONS: What is a shared orchestral recording session?
Shared sessions, pioneered by FAME’S in 2008, allow multiple composers to share studio time and orchestra fees, making professional orchestral recording accessible for short formats, tight budgets and exploratory projects. We are usually able to schedule shared sessions within 48 to 72 hours for string sections and a few days for larger ensembles. You don’t need to wait for a shared session announcement: simply contact us anytime, indicate your earliest and latest possible recording dates, and we will find you a suitable slot.
DELIVERY & FORMATS: What formats and delivery timing does FAME’S provide?
All recordings are delivered the same day in Pro Tools format via Dropbox or Myairbridge. We can also provide consolidated audio files for Logic, Cubase or any DAW on demand.
MIXING: Can FAME’S handle the mixing and editing of my recordings?
Yes. Beyond recording, FAME’S offers in-house editing and mixing services for both stereo and surround formats. Our team can prepare clean masters with the most recent approved take of each cue, detailed playlists with take numbers or full post-session editing with online validation. For mixing, we work either on-site at the studio or remotely depending on your preference and we can also connect you with experienced external mixers when needed. Request these services in advance to receive a tailored quote and timeline.
VIDEO: Can my recording session be filmed for behind-the-scenes content?
Yes. FAME’S has an in-house video crew that can film your session for behind-the-scenes content, promotional videos, social media or making-of material. We can adapt the number of cameras and angles to your project’s needs and budget. Filming requires a separate quote and a small participation fee paid directly to the musicians (after the first hour of filming). Concert attire for the orchestra is also available on request, with fees going to the participating musicians. Just mention your video needs when booking and we will include them in your quote.
MASTER RIGHTS: Who owns the recordings made at our studio?
You own 100% of your masters. Once your session is paid in full, you own the full rights to the recordings and can use them freely for your production, distribution and licensing. FAME’S does not claim any creative or commercial rights over the music or its uses. We may, with your written authorization, mention the project in our credits and on our website for promotional purposes, but never the actual audio. For specific contractual requirements (NDAs, exclusivity clauses, work-for-hire agreements), simply let us know and we will accommodate your production’s legal framework.
PAYMENT: What are your payment terms and accepted methods?
FAME’S accepts international bank transfers in EUR and USD via SEPA. A deposit is usually requested to confirm the booking, with the balance due before file delivery. Detailed invoices are provided for every session, and we can adapt to most production company processes including purchase orders, milestone payments and multi-project agreements.
